Nicki Minaj Pink Friday Launch

Yesterday marked the launch of Nicki Minaj's first ever fragrance - Pink Friday, which debuts exclusively at Selfridges. I was lucky enough to attend the launch breakfast yesterday morning, ahead of opening hours at Selfridges (which was very exciting in itself; I felt like Lady Loxley!)

We were greeted with strawberry smoothies, pink grapefruit juice, pink fruit salad, pink macaroons, and pastries with pink icing, and introduced to the perfume.

The fragrance itself is described as "an intoxicating floral musk"- Perfume buffs may like to know that the topnotes are Starfruit, Italian Mandarin and Boysenberry. Heartnotes are Lotus Flower and Jasmine Pearls, and the drydown is Vanilla, Caramelized Pear, Musk and Woods.

It's sweet and floral but not overly-so in either department. Celebrity fragrances can sometimes be sickly and cheap smelling, so it was really nice to see (or, smell, rather) that that wasn't the case at all - Pink Friday is refreshingly exotic and wearable. I am really fussy with fragrance but I will definitely wear mine.

Like everything else Nicki Minaj does - the bottle is mad, crazy, bold, loud and proud - a statuesque glass bottle depicting Nicki herself wearing a nameplate necklace, with a golden face complete with pink lipstick, and her trademark pink hair as the lid - making it somewhat of a collectors item.

To give something a little extra to her UK fans, Nicki also decided to launch a handmade clothing line for the perfume bottles (crazy but zany cool and oh, so Nicki!), 'Couture by Nicki'. There are 4 different designs, with only 100 of each being made - 30 of which being in London Selfridges and are given free to customers buying a 100ml bottle of fragrance. Her fans (or Barbz as they are known) were very eager to be the first in the queue for when the doors opened yesterday morning to make sure they got one of the outfits - some even slept on the street the outside to ensure they were one of the lucky ones!

The designs are each inspired by Nicki's outfits, which the Nicki models showed us yesterday morning...

Duchess of Pink was the outfit that went on sale yesterday - the first 30 Barbz rushed in to pick up their bounty. This one is the "master of sassy sweetness" - I love the little ice cream cone on her hat!

Whip it Like Minaj goes on sale today for the first 30 customers - this is for those that have a tough, chic side.

Starships Minaj "invites you to close your eyes and let the sparkling ride begin"! and will be on sale to the first 30 customers next Saturday.

There is another outfit too, British Pink, which will be revealed on Tuesday by Nicki on Twitter. There was a little peep-hole to look through and I spied diamantes!

Nails of the Day: Nicki Minaj for OPI - Pink Friday

When I heard Nicki Minaj was doing a nail polish collection for OPI I couldn't wait to see the colours. They are inspired by her love of bright colours - and if her collaboration with MAC was anything to go by, this collection would be good too.

In the end I decided to buy just two of the six polishes - Pink Friday, and Fly - which I will swatch soon so stay tuned for that one.

My first thoughts as I was applying the polish was how wide the brush was - it seems a lot wider than the usual Pro-Wide OPI brush. The formula was very thick, and very opaque - one coat was more than enough to completely cover the nail (although in this photo I went with two - I can't not!)

I love the colour - it is almost a bright baby pink while staying milky, and reminds me of Hubba Bubba drink (who remembers that!?). It's similar to a few other pinks I have, but not identical - perhaps due to the blue tone in it.

I know I am going to give this a good run for it's money over the summer, but it's also the kind of shade you could wear in any season and get away with.

Do you like it? What are your thoughts on the rest of the collection?

MAC 'Pink Friday' Lipstick

Last Friday, MAC launched a new lipstick which Nicki Minaj had personally designed, to celebrate the launch of her new album, Pink Friday. The limited edition lipstick is only available to buy from Selfridges, or Mac.com, and can only be bought on Fridays while stocks last. I do love a bright pink lipstick, and seeing as it was limited edition it made me want it even more, so had to buy it as a little 'happy Christmas to me'! It arrived this morning wrapped in gorgeous Christmas paper courtesy of Selfridges, so I swatched it straight away.

Excuse the hat, I'm rather cold!

I swatched it on my hand next to a few other MAC lipsticks I have similar in shade. It is very bright and although it's a Satin finish, it's rather like the Saint Germain (which is Amplified) in it's finish. It's creamy and although it's more fushia compared to the others I've swatched on my hand, it seems to have a blue tone to it. I think it will look great with a smoky eye for a night out on the town, so shall give it a try this weekend... Friday infact!
